Diet or exercise: Which is more important to get in shape?

Summer is just around the corner, meaning “shorts and tank tops”. As summer emerges, many people begin a weight loss plan to help them lose those extra pounds from winter.

In order to do this, a healthy, wholesome diet is fundamental in losing weight and ideally it will be combined with physical activity. It should be noted that even if you do lots of exercise but don’t have a healthy diet, you will take back all of the calories you just burned.

The biggest weight loss is achieved by a controlled low-calorie diet when compared with a normal low-calorie diet with regular physical activity. For that matter, diet makes up for 70% of weight loss and physical exercise only 30%.

In regards to exercise, one of the most recommended methods for quickly burning calories is high-intensity interval training, known as HIIT. This form of interval training involves alternating short periods of high-intensity exercises with short breaks which has been discovered to be much more efficient than conventional exercises.

What should we eat for this type of training? It is important to take the rest periods between each of the training sets, as this aids in recuperating and regenerating the muscle fibers. For those that do cardio training, it is recommended to eat a piece of fruit after exercising and those that are trying to tone their body should have some non-fat yogurt.

What types of exercises will help me to lose localized fat?

The key is having a caloric deficit, in other words burn more calories than we consumed. That is why we need to have a good exercise routine as this will help us burn the maximum amount of calories in a short period of time, while toning your body and improving your shape. Muscle naturally burns fat, so the more muscle we have, the more calories we will burn even while resting.

How many times a week should I exercise?

Ideally, we should exercise two to three times a week, incorporating this habit into our lives. We need to avoid making intensive goals too soon in our weekly routine, as it will be too difficult to reach them in our current lifestyle and we will only end up becoming discouraged.
